The Johnston Middle School Symphonic Band performed at the Region 23 University Interscholastic League CCC Varsity Band Concert/Sight Reading Competition held Saturday, April 12th @ 7:30 p.m. at Westside High School., Houston, Texas., once again earning "Sweepstakes" honors with all Superior Ratings.
The Johnston Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Craig A. Green, earned the judges praise with marks of I-I-I, a Division I rating of "Superior" in Stage Performance and marks of I-I-I, a Division I rating of "Superior" in Sight Reading!!! The judge’s comments ranged from "Impressed" to "possibly the highlight of the contest for me!"
As Defined in the Texas UIL Constitution and Contest Rules JUDGING STANDARDS: Division I (Superior). A superior performance for the event and the class of participants being judged; worthy of the distinction of being recognized as a first place winner.
The audience, technicians, and judges were very complimentary following the performance of the maturity, musicianship and overall performance of the students. As always, they represented Johnston as well as HISD in outstanding fashion!
The Johnston Band holds the distinction of being the only HISD concert band to have not only earned "Sweepstakes" Ratings in UIL Band Concert/Sight Reading Competition, but to also have done it multiple times (5) and twice with straight I's!
