The Johnston Middle School Choir department participated in the UIL concert and sight-reading competition, hosted by Memorial Parkway Junior High in Katy ISD, on Monday, March 31 and Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Mrs. Laurie Conner, Johnston choir director, entered five choirs over the two day period. Each choir performed three memorized selections from the UIL list in concert and then sight-read in three to four parts for the sight-reading portion of the competition. Johnston was the only school from all of HISD, Alief and Katy to have 5 choirs competing.
Congratulations to Laurie Conner and the JMS choirs for performing so well at UIL contest in Katy on Monday and Tuesday. Here's the breakdown:
Varsity Treble Sweepstakes Trophy (superior ratings)
Varsity Mixed Sweepstakes Trophy (superior ratings)
Varsity Tenor-Bass Sweepstakes Trophy (superior ratings)
Non-Varsity Treble Sweepstakes Trophy (superior ratings)
Non-Varsity Tenor-Bass Plaque for their concert (superior ratings); excellent ratings for the sight-reading room
Additionally, every adult with the host school, as well as all six judges, remarked – over and over and over again – how incredibly well-behaved and well-mannered our JMS kids were, along with their amazingly mature vocal sound!!!
Johnston Middle School applauds Mrs. Conner and her wonderful students on a job well done! They make us Greyhound Proud!!!!
