We need you and your contributions to help sustain Johnston as an extraordinary
learning environment for our kids.
WHY CHOOSE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE JMS PTO?
* Keep in communication with your child’s school and to understand
how JMS operates.
* Get to know teachers and administrators who interface with your child
daily.
* Fund specific projects that benefit all JMS students.
* PTO promotes committee volunteerism, through Volunteers In Public Schools
(VIPS) of HISD.
* Monthly PTO evening one hour meetings.
* Involvement in on-campus activities, scholastic and academic fairs,
and teacher events. WHY SUPPORT THE PTO FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN?
* The PTO receives100% of your donation.
* Your PTO contribution is tax deductible as the PTO is a non-profit,
501(c)(3) organization.
* JMS is the ONLY middle school magnet program that requires TWO magnet
disciplines.
* PTO members receive the JMS School Newsletter and frequent Greyhound
VIPS E-Notices.
* JMS Magnet and extracurricular activities are supported by PTO and department
fundraising.
* Your contribution supplements HISD funding and enables the PTO to make
improvements that benefit each of our Johnston students.
* Because of our excellent Cultural Arts Magnet Program, JMS is a feeder
school into HSPVA and other magnet programs.
* Graduating JMS students attend HSPVA, Bellaire, Carnegie Vanguard and
Lamar High schools.
PTO ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Thanks to past tax-deductible membership contributions, Johnston students
have benefitted from the following PTO accomplishments:
• Support for the KICKSTART Karate Program ($7500) in the Physical
Education Department.
• Weight Room renovation with flooring for the Physical Education
Department.
• Auditorium renovation of chairs and curtains.
• Wrought iron fence surrounding JMS facility.
• Funded Baseball field, scoreboard and continuing field maintenance.
• Science Lab microscopes and balance weights.
• Fresh paint to lockers and hallways ($13,000).
PTO GOALS FOR THE NEW YEAR
• Extend Wrought iron fence for additional security on Wigton side
of campus.
• Magnet support – Publicity by Performance campaign
• Physical Education support – KICKSTART Martial Arts program

• School equipment & infrastructure – Science Labs upgrade
• Various beautification projects
HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
Submit a check, money order, or cashier’s check for the amount you
wish to contribute and mail it along with your student’s information
(see below). Contributions of $50 or more will be recognized.
