On March 8, 9, and 11, the Johnston Choirs, under the direction of Mrs. Laurie Conner, brought home the following results from the UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contest...
- Non-Varsity Treble Choir earned "excellent" ratings on their concert.
- Varsity Mixed Choir brought home a sweepstakes trophy for their "superior" work in both the concert & sight-reading rooms.
- Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir also has a sweepstakes trophy for the "superior" work on the stage and in the sight-reading room.
- Varsity Treble Choir received "excellent" marks in concert -- and earned a "superior" plaque in the sight-reading room for their outstanding work.
We are very proud of Mrs. Conner and hers choirs. "I have been in the sight-reading room with them and these students know how to read music." said Mrs. Diane Grosscope, head of the piano department at Johnston. The Johnston choir students continue to perform demanding and high-level music in their concerts, and deliver a consistent quality of sound which makes the judges say things like, "What a sonorous sound you have!" and "Not a typical middle-school sound - you sing like high schoolers!!".
Kudos to Mrs. Conner and her ability to teach every child in her program how to read music! We are Johnston Proud! |
