Johnston Middle School offers high school credit in three languages other than English: French, Japanese, and Spanish. We are one of only two middle schools in Texas to offer classes in Japanese.
Our language program starts with Japanese in the sixth grade. Students who have had previous experience with the Japanese language can begin in the sixth grade while all others would begin in the seventh grade.
In order to qualify for language classes in the seventh grade, students must score well on the Reading sections of the TAAS and Stanford tests and have a high average in their sixth grade Reading class. Students may select any one of our three languages to study in the seventh and eighth grades.
