Do you want to be a member of one of the finest bands in HISD? As a member of the Johnston Band department, you will become more proficient on your instrument and participate in an ensemble setting with your peers. You will flourish under the tutelage of Mr. Green, Director of Bands/Jazz Band, and Mr. Vargas, Assistant Director of Bands/Mariachi.

The band department consists of the Symphonic, Honor, and Beginning bands and also ensemble classes such as Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion class. We are one of the only schools to offer Mariachi studies, offering both Beginning and Advanced Mariachi classes. The Advanced Mariachi receives many requests for performances. Our Jazz Band is well known throughout the city and receives numerous invitations to play for outside events.

The band department participates in contests such as UIL Concert and Sightreading, Solo and Ensemble, and festivals as well as school concerts and community performances. Come and join this great organization!
