Audition Information
   

Auditions will be held February 1-6, 2010.

All auditions will be very informal and as brief as possible. Auditions will generally include a brief interview to determine the student's interest and background in the Magnet program areas.

Las audiciones van a ser el 1 de febrero - el 6 de febrero.

Todas las audiciones van a ser muy informal y tan breve como es posible. Generalmente, las audiciones van a incluir una entrevista corta para determinar los intereses del estudiante y sus experiencias en los programas del Magnet.

 

JOHNSTON MIDDLE SCHOOL AUDITION INFORMATION

You will be notified by letter when your child’s audition will be held.  Please retain this copy for your information.

All auditions will be very informal and as brief as possible.  Auditions will generally include a brief interview to determine the student’s interest and background as well as the following:

Art:  Students must present 2-3 pieces of their best art work, 2 dimensional only. Please no sculpture, ceramics or framed work. No art larger than 12”x 18”. Please do not bring cartoon drawings.  All students will take a 35 minute drawing test.

Band, Orchestra, Guitar, Mariachi: (Beginning Students) A student who has no previous experience on an instrument, including recorder, will be interviewed and will be given a music aptitude test.  All beginning students will be considered “open placement “candidates. Beginning instrument assignment will be determined at the discretion of the Band Director unless you already own an instrument you would like to learn; however, director must be notified at the time of audition what instrument that is.

Band, Orchestra, Guitar, Mariachi: (Students with at least one year previous formal experience on a band/orchestra instrument, not including recorder) Students must bring their own instruments.  An audition may include a theory test and sight-reading.  Students must bring instrument, music and be prepared to play a selection.

Broadcast Journalism/ TV Production: Students will be asked to do a short writing sample during the audition. They will be asked to do a cold reading and create and perform a school news commercial with a group of three other students.

Choral Music:  Students will be asked to sing alone.  Students should prepare a solo to sing from the following list: “America the Beautiful”, “ Amazing Grace”  or “Edelweiss”(from the “Sound of Music”).

Dance:  Students will participate in a vigorous dance movement class in a studio setting. Students should have standard dance class or active wear clothing and only ballet shoes or bare feet will be allowed.

Handbells:  Students exhibiting music reading ability will be interviewed and auditioned for beginning, intermediate, and advanced level performance classes based on availability.  Beginners will be interviewed and will be given a music aptitude test.

Piano:  Students should bring music and be prepared to play a piece.  Auditions will also include sight-reading and theory.

Piano:  (Beginning Students) Students with no prior experience will be interviewed, given a music aptitude and/or theory test.

Theater Arts (Drama): Students will audition in groups of 15.  They will be asked to pantomime, perform group improvisations, and perform a prepared reading of a poem.

INFORMACION SOBRE AUDICIONES

Padres seran notificados por correo del la fecha de audicion para el estudiante.  Favor de retener esta copia para su informacion.

Todas las audiciones van a ser muy informal y tan breve como es posible.  Generalmente, las audiciones van a incluir una intrevista corta para determinar los intereses del estudiante y sus experiencias, y tambien lo siguiente:

El Arte: Los estudiantes tienen que presentar 2-3 piezas de su mejor trabajo en dos dimensiones. Favor de no traer esculpturas, ceramicas ni trabajo en marcos. No se aceptara dibujos mas grandes de 12”x18”. Por favor, no traigan dibujos de caricatura.  Todos los estudiantes van a tomar un examen de dibujo que dura 35 minutos.

La Banda, Orquesta, Guitarra, y Mariachi:  (Livel para principiantes) Un estudiante sin experiencia va a tener una entrevista y va a tomar un examen de su aptitud en la musica. Todos los estudiantes que son principiantes seran cosiderados  candidates de “colocacion abierta”. Asignacion de instrumentos seran determinado a la discrecion del director de banda al menos que el estudiante ya tenga un instumento que trabaje y que quiera aprender.

La Banda, Orquesta, Guitarra, y Mariachi:  (Estudiantes con un ano o mas de experiencia).  Los estudiantes tienen que traer sus instrumentos.  Deben traer su musica y estar listos para tocar algo que conocen, y tambien van a tocar unas escalas.  Pueden tomar un examen tambien que incluye teoria y ejecutacion a la primera lectura.

El Coro:  Estudiantes tienen que cantar solo.  Estudiantes deben venir preparados para cantar una cancion de esta lista: “Amazing Grace, “America the Beautiful” o “Edelweiss”(de la pelicula “Sound of Music”).

El Baile:  Los estudiantes participaran en una clase de movimiento vigorosa en un ambiente de estudio. Estudiantes deben traer puestos ropa active o ropa de baile y zapatos de baile o estar descalzos para audicionar.
